As we continue our wine tasting series, this month we want to introduce one of the smaller boutique wineries in Santa Clara County – Sarah’s Vineyard. Since 1978 Sarah’s Vineyard has created award-winning handmade wines using more traditional techniques than some of the larger commercial wineries. Each wine produced at Sarah’s Vineyard captures the flavors of grapes and terrain that are famous in this multi-climate area of Santa Clara County. Over the last several years, Sarah’s Vineyard wines have received over twenty top awards at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Completion.
The winery is located off highway 152 West in Gilroy, California. Their tasting room offers a large picnic area where they host a variety of outdoor events throughout the year. Along with theater performances and music, Sarah’s Vineyard hosts annual gourmet food events and bottling parties as well. General wine tasting is just $5.00 per person.
Sarah’s Vineyard produces a wonderful Pinot Noir and Chardonnay; as well as a nice selection of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Zinfandel. The winemakers use locally grown grapes from growers throughout the valley including some from the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Each individual microclimate offers a unique variety of grapes that allow for Sarah’s Vineyard to produce such a wide selection. Visitors to Sarah’s Vineyard may notice the Grenache vineyard less than a mile away from the tasting room. It’s over one hundred years old and their Old Vine Zinfandel comes from nearby gnarled grapevines planted back in the 1920s.
Sarah’s Vineyard is located at 4005 Hecker Pass Highway, Gilroy, California, 95020, The Tasting Room is open daily from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
